Okay, unpopular Tumblr opinion time: as much as I loved coffee-chugging, Irish-to-her-very-core Janeway and could relate to the social awkwardness of an INTP-esque Seven, I actually shipped Seven/Doctor when I was a teenager, NOT Janeway/Seven.
Why? I think they had a hell of a lot in common, and their notable differences make this pairing even lovelier. One’s an ex-Borg, and even though she’s trying to navigate the human realm she still has some pretty Borg-ish qualities at times. She’s a human being flavored with the qualities of a computer. The other’s a hologram, basically a computer program, but in many ways he is more humane and more sensitive and emotional than many of the in-the-flesh human beings on the ship. He’s a computer flavored with the qualities of a human being. They are yin and yang, missing pieces of the same puzzle. They complete each other.
I started seeing them as my OTP the moment Seven sang “You are My Sunshine” and the Doctor got all googly-eyed at her. I still remember the moment, and how it moved me. I shit you not. Sure, it’s not two females in a couple, but in a way it’s still queer as all get out.
As gay as I am, I appreciate all kinds of love, and a couple doesn’t have to be same sex for me to root for them. Besides, if Seven is an INTP, then the Doctor is totally an INFP. That’s a match made in heaven for me. ;P
